Men's Soccer Dominant in Win Over Knights

MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team played host to Martin Luther College on Wednesday night and put forth a strong effort in a 7-0 win. With the win the Vikings move to 9-3-2 overall and 8-0-1 in the UMAC while the Knights fall to 3-11-0 overall and 1-8-0 in the conference.

It was just over six minutes into the contest that Gijs van Eldik would be taken down in the box for a penalty kick that he would step up and convert for the early 1-0 lead.

The Vikings would extend upon that lead in the 20th minute when they would take a corner that would get knocked in by the Knights to put them up 2-0 before Daniel Almeida would notch a goal in the 24th minute after some great combination play from Raheem Graham and Mille Enequist to put BLC up 3-0.

As things neared the half the game seemed like it would be 3-0 at the break before a 42nd minute header from Graham would put the Vikings up 4-0. With time winding down, it was then Christian Edwards who struck for a goal with under 30 seconds remaining as BLC took a 5-0 lead into the half.

In the second half, Ben Klausen would be the first to score for Bethany as he scored just under four minutes into the second on a perfect placed shot from the left side of the box. Lorenzo Falleti would then end the scoring in the contest, as he took a corner in the 54th minute that was an in-swinging kick and got over the MLC keeper for the goal.

Bethany outshot the Knights 39-3 in the contest including 24-0 in shots on net.

The Vikings will next be in action on Saturday when they host UW-Superior at 3:30 p.m.
