MANKATO, Minn. - Despite outshooting Northland 19-4, the Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team took a tough 1-0 loss on Saturday afternoon. With the loss the Vikings fall to 10-6-2 overall and 9-2-1 in the UMAC while the LumberJacks move to 9-7-2 overall and 8-2-2 in the conference.
It was a goal in the 11th minute that proved to be the difference in this one, as the LumberJacks took advantage of a misplay by the Vikings and fired a shot from near midfield past goalkeeper
Nick Lundberg who was just yards outside of goalie box.
Bethany would outshoot the LumberJacks 9-4 in the first frame and 3-2 in shots on net but couldn't knock one home as they trailed 1-0 headed to the second.
In the final 45, the Vikings dominated possession from start to finish, firing 10 shots total as opposed to none from the visitors. Three of Bethany's 10 shots were on net and a good chunk of the remaining seven were within feet wide or high of the net but none connected as Northland escaped with the 1-0 win.
The Vikings will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Crown for a 7 p.m. contest.
