Quadrio Curzio Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer Over Crown

ST. BONIFACIOUS, Minn. – An impressive goal in the closing minutes by Agostino Quadrio Curzio lifted the Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Crown on Tuesday night. With the win the Vikings move to 11-6-2 overall and 10-2-1 in the UMAC while the Polars fall to 8-9-2 overall and 6-5-2 in the conference.

The game played very back and forth throughout, with the Vikings scoring the first goal of the contest in the 26th minute when Ben Klausen would convert a penalty kick for a 1-0 lead.
After the Vikings took that lead into the half, they would get called for a foul in the box in the 66th minute and Crown would respond with a penalty kick score of their own to even things at 1-1 with just under 24 minutes to play.

The Polars would clinch a playoff spot with a tie, so they were pushing the corners to try to hold possession and doing so successfully for a majority of the late stages of this contest. With under three minutes left the Vikings would finally get the ball down onto the Crown end of the field and were eventually fouled about 50 yards from net with just under two minutes remaining. Quadrio Curzio quickly stepped up and without hesitation curled one into the top right corner on an impressive strike to give the Vikings the 2-1 lead they would hold onto for the victory.

Nick Lundberg got the win in net, making three saves in the win.

Bethany will next be in action on Saturday when they host Minnesota Morris at 3:30 where they will celebrate Senior Day before the game.
