MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team claimed a 3-0 win over Minnesota-Morris to conclude their regular season on Saturday afternoon. With the win the Vikings finish the regular season 11-5-2 overall and 10-3-1 in the UMAC while the Cougars finish 4-12-2 overall and 4-8-2 in the UMAC.
The two teams played scoreless for the first 24 minutes of the contest until
Olaitz Azkue Muguruza found the back of the net with an assist from Juana Quevedo to take the 1-0 lead. Azkue would gain another point less than two minutes later, as she dished up an assist in the 26th minute that
Mia Saulter would knock home for the 2-0 advantage.
Those two scores would be the only two of the opening frame, as the Vikings outshot the Cougars 14-0 in the first 45 minutes of action.Â
Bethany once again struck quickly in the second half, as
Asia Jota played a ball in to
Ashley Casper that the latter would head home in the 51st minute for the 3-0 lead. The Vikings would continue to control possession for a majority of the second, as the Cougars would get their only shot on net in the waning moments of the game.
Brooke Wolanin got the win in net for Bethany and wasn't challenged with a shot during her time on the field.Â
The Vikings will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Northwestern for a UMAC semifinal matchup.Â
