MORRIS, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team played one of their more complete matches of the season on Tuesday, defeating Minnesota Morris 4-0. With the win the Vikings improve to 7-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the conference, while the Cougars fall to 1-8-2 overall and 1-4-2 in the UMAC.
Gijs van Eldik got things going early in this one as he scored just four minutes in on some beautiful combination play with
Daniel Almeida. The Vikings offense continued to thrive, getting a handful of clean shots but were either denied or missed the net over the next 15 minutes of play. During a corner in the 23
rd minute, Bethany would strike again with an own goal being awarded to the Vikings.
Agostino Quadrio Curzio played a corner kick in and it was van Eldik who seemed to knock it off the defender and in for the goal.
Bethany would continue to pour it on in the first half, as
Matteo Faraguna would find
Liam Goschn who would touch a through ball to
Lorenzo Falleti which the sophomore put home for a 3-0 lead in the 31
st minute.
Nick Lundberg would make two saves in the first half including a tough shot up top that he would punch away but that was all the work the junior would get in the contest as Morris didn't put a shot on net in the second.
The Vikings would fire four shots on net in the final 45 and it was
Raheem Graham in the 74
th minute that would give Bethany the 4-0 lead and eventual final score with an assist going to
Noah Philipsen.
Bethany will next be in action on Thursday when they travel to Bethel for a 4 p.m. contest.
