Box Score ASHLAND, Wis. – The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team traveled to Northland on Friday night and came away with a 3-1 match win. With the win the Vikings improve to 8-17 overall and 5-8 in the UMAC while the LumberJills move to 8-15 overall and 4-9 in the conference.
The first frame was a set of runs for both teams, as they went back and forth with the Vikings eventually pushing to a 20-14 lead late in the set. The Jills would respond as they would eventually claw back to bring the deficit to 23-19 before scoring five straight to go up 24-23. The Vikings would score two of the next three to even things at 25 before a Northland attack error and
Esther Peeters kill would end the first set 27-25 and put BLC up 1-0 in the match.
After an even start to the second, the Vikings would use a 7-1 run to claim a 12-5 advantage. Bethany would use that cushion the rest of the set to hold off Northland and claim a 25-18 win.
In the third the LumberJills would take a 10-7 lead in the early going before eventually extending their lead to 16-11. Bethany would climb back in and cut the deficit to three points at 23-20 before two straight points from Northland would keep the match going as the Jills claimed their first set of the match.
Northland would get out to a lead early in the fourth set before Bethany would use a 6-2 run to take a 10-8 lead. After the LumberJills would even the set at 10 points, the serve of
Maddie Diveley would key an 8-0 run for the Vikings who would cruise to the 25-17 set win from there to take the match 3-1.
Kate Maag had a huge match for Bethany, posting a career high 24 kills in the match to pace the offense. Peeters also found her way into the double digit kills notching 12 while also posting 19 digs on the defensive end.
Paloma Garcia De Fuentes nearly matched her career high for assists in the match as she dished out 50, while
Maddi Wendland led the back row with 20 digs.
The Vikings will conclude their season tomorrow when they take on UW-Superior at noon.
