Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Goes 2-2 on Weekend as Senne, Mork Earn UMAC Player of Week Honors

MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran softball team went 2-2 this weekend in its second weekend of action. The Vikings defeated St. Olaf 6-5 and Hamline 9-1 Saturday, before falling to Macalester 9-3 and St. Catherine 3-0 on Sunday.

The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) office also announced their Player of the Week awards on Monday, and Kayla Senne was named Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week, while Kaija Mork earned Player of the Week honors.

Bethany 6 - 5 St. Olaf
The Vikings lashed out for 11 hits against a St. Olaf team who made it to the MIAC Championship game last season. Bethany got three hits from Elizabeth Cizek, while Emily Doyle had two hits and drove in a pair of runs. It was Doyle's single in the sixth inning that drove in two runs that proved to be the difference as it put BLC up 6-4 and they held on in the seventh for the win. Kayla Senne went the sitance, allowing four earned runs in the contest and striking out seven.

Bethany 9 - 1 Hamline
This one only took six innings, as Bethany hammered out 13 more hits in the contest including a pair of homers and three doubles. With the game tied at 1-1 in the third, Mork smashed a home run off the top of the dome in left field to give Bethany a lead they would not let up. She would add three more hits in the contest as well as total three RBI and three runs scored, while Ana Christofferson hit her first home run of the season in the fifth inning. Doyle finished her day strong, knocking home three runs in the contest thanks to her three hits. Mork got the win on the mound, throwing four innings and allowing no earned runs, while Senne struck out four in two innings of relief.

Macalester 9 - 3 Bethany
The Vikings and Scots tallied the same number of hits in this one, but four errors proved costly. Bethany got the scoring started and they added onto it in the third, taking a 3-1 lead after a Mork triple and Doyle double. Macalester would score eight unanswered though, including four unearned runs for the win. Katelyn Halbach led the offensive effort in this one with three hits and one run scored.

St. Catherine 3 - 0 Bethany Lutheran
The Vikings once again outhit their opponent, with eight hits to St. Kate's seven, but it wasn't enough as the Wildcats took the victory. Timely hitting was the key in this one, as St. Catherine scored all three of their runs in the sixth inning thanks to a walk and three extra base hits. Senne had another strong outing in the contest, striking out six batter in six innings of work.
