MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team came out strong on Wednesday and put forth a complete effort to take a 3-0 win over Crown. With the victory the Vikings improve to 5-3-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the UMAC while the Polars fall to 1-7-1- overall and 1-3-1 in the conference.
Bethany got the scoring started in this one thanks to a tough break from Crown, as the Vikings took a corner in the 15
th minute that deflected off a Polar player and into the net for an own goal.
The Vikings would continue the offensive pressure, firing off a handful of shots before
Asia Jota connected on a shot in the 25
th minute with an assist credited to
Riley Ping to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the last 20 minutes of the first, BLC continued to apply pressure, but Crown would hold them at bay and head to the break at just a two goal deficit.
It didn't take long in the second half for the Vikings to extend their lead to three goals, as
Olaitz Azkue Muguruza found
Mia Johnson who converted for what would be the game's final goal in the 63
rd minute.
Needing to make just two saves in the first 86 minutes of the contest,
Brooke Wolanin made two more in the final four minutes to preserve the shutout and secure the victory.
The Vikings outshot the Polars 19-5 in the contest including 11-4 in shots on net.
Bethany will next be in action on Saturday when they travel to Northland for a 4:30 p.m. matchup.
