ASHLAND, Wis. – The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team controlled the pace of the game for the full 90 on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Northland 2-0. With the win the Vikings improve to 6-3-1 overall and 5-1-0 in the UMAC while the Jills fall to 2-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in the conference.
Bethany came out firing in this one, as they put multiple shots on and just off target in the early going.
Elena Luján Rubio hit the woodwork in the 14
th minute but was rewarded seven minutes later as the she took and converted on a penalty kick for the first goal of the match. The Vikings continued to apply the pressure and dominated possession in the first half, outshooting Northland 11-0 in the first 45 minutes.
The second half was much of the same for the Vikings, as they controlled the pace of play early and often.
Mia Johnson took a shot that was saved in the 52
nd minute but
Ashley Casper was there for the rebound and punched it home for the goal and the 2-0 lead. From there on out, Bethany would fire 10 more shots on goal, but Northland keeper Elysabeth Lough held tough in net and gave up just the two goals in the loss.
Brooke Wolanin saved the only shot the LumberJills put on net in the contest to gain the win.
Bethany outshot Northland 30-1 in the contest including 18-1 in shots on net.
The Vikings will next be in action on Tuesday when they travel to Minnesota Morris for 4:30 contest.
