Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Draws with Northland

ASHLAND, Wis. – The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team traveled to Northland on Saturday afternoon and finished the game with a 1-1 draw to the LumberJacks. With the result the Vikings move to 6-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the UMAC while Northland goes to 4-6-2 overall and 3-1-2 in the conference.

Bethany commanded possession for a majority of Saturday's contest but the defensive approach by the LumberJacks proved worthy. Bethany would go on to outshoot the Jacks 8-2 in the first frame with Northland putting just one shot on goal, but that shot found the back of the net as they struck in the 40th minute on a perfect low cross that left a wide-open right side of the net for a goal.

Trailing 1-0 at the break, Bethany continued their dominance of possession even more in the second half. From the 54th minute to the 59th minute, the Vikings would take six corner kicks and fired three shots off on goal, but couldn't find the back of the net as Jacks keeper Jamie Colvill kept them at bay. They would continue the pressure and it would pay off in the 72nd minute, as the Vikings would use a counter attack to score their goal. Lorenzo Falleti would dish to Gijs van Eldik who would pass it back to Falleti  up the right side where the sophomore would fire a rocket just underneath the crossbar for the goal.

With time winding down and Bethany pushing for the win, they nearly got it in the 88th minute when Jamie van Wijland took a pair of shots, the second which looked as if it was going to roll into the right side of the net but the LumberJacks were able to save it to force the game to end in a tie.

The Vikings finished the game with 22 total shots to five from Northland including nine on net to just two from NC.

Bethany will next be in action on Tuesday when they head to Minnesota Morris for a 2 p.m. contest.
