Superior Uses Strong Attack to Defeat Vikings

MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team Friday night traveled to UW-Superior for a UMAC contest and fell in straight sets 3-0. With the loss the Vikings fall to 8-12 overall and 1-5 in the UMAC while the Yellowjackets move to 15-6 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

After UWS would get out to a 15-9 lead in the first frame, the Vikings would work and cut the deficit to 17-14 thanks to a plethora of kills. UWS would then score three straight to take a 20-14 before two kills from Maddie Meyer and a pair of Superior errors made it 20-18. The Vikings would keep the deficit at two points on set point at 24-22, but a UWS kill would end the frame.

The second started off even from both teams as they would they would play to an even 9-9 score. UWS would score three in a row but Bethany would then answer with four to claim the 13-12 lead. From that point forward though it was all Yellowjackets as they would score 13 of the last 17 to claim the set 25-17.

Set three would start heavily in favor of the home team as they would go up 11-5 before Bethany responded to cut the deficit to 13-10. UWS would respond with a big run to go up 22-13 before a 7-1 run from Bethany including a pair of Kylie Smidt service aces would make it 23-20. UWS though would get a pair of kills to take the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.
