SUPERIOR, Wis. - The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team Saturday traveled to UW-Superior and would score the first goal of the contest but it wasn't enough as the Yellowjackets would score the game's final two to claim the 2-1 win. With the loss the Vikings fall to 6-6-2 overall and 6-1-1 in the UMAC while UWS moves to 10-6-0 overall and 8-1-0 in the conference.
The Vikings would score first just five minutes in, as
Laura Ruiz Rocha would play a perfect through ball up ahead to
Riley Ping with the latter firing a shot that deflected off the UWS goalie and then a defender and into the net.
Bethany would hold the lead for nearly 30 minutes, before a Yellowjacket attacker was able to knife through the defense and put a shot into the top left corner to even it at 1-1.
Just five minutes later they would break the tie as they would play a few passes into the corner before crossing a pass in that would be headed into the net for the 2-1 lead.
The second half proved to be an uphill battle for the Vikings, who weren't able to put a shot on net as UWS would escape with the victory.
Arayah Baker took the loss in net, making seven saves while allowing the two goals.
Bethany is next in action on Tuesday when they host Northwestern for a 7 p.m. contest.
