ST. BONIFACIOUS, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team Wednesday traveled to Crown and came away with a 2-0 victory. With the win the Vikings move to 4-5-2 overall and 3-1-1 in the UMAC while the Polars fall to 4-5-0 overall and 4-1-0 in the conference.
It didn't take long for the scoring to get started in this one as the Vikings would take advantage of a Polars foul just outside the box just two minutes in to score their first goal.
Guilherme Gancho would play a perfect ball in from the right side of the box, with
Vasco Sotomayor flying through the mass of players and heading it into the left side of the net for his first collegiate goal.Â
Both keepers would then play strong for the remainder of the first, each making two saves to keep it at 1-0 headed to the break.
In the second half, both teams once again played very evenly matched. Neither were really able to get a ton going with both keeping the shots at a distance and forcing turnover from their opposition.
It wasn't until the 80th minute that the Vikings would strike again.
Raheem Graham would get taken down in the box for a Viking penalty kick that
Daniel Almeida would step up and put into the right side of the net for the 2-0 lead that would hold out for the win.Â
Nick Lundberg got the win in net for the Vikings, posting a clean sheet with three saves.
Bethany will next be in action on Saturday when they host Northland for a 3 p.m. contest.Â
