MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team Saturday hosted Northland and came away with a big 9-0 win. With the victory the Vikings improve to 5-5-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the UMAC while the LumberJacks fall to 0-9-0 and 0-6-0 in the conference.
Alexandre Silva got the scoring started in this one as he notched a goal in the 19th minute to get things going.
Daniel Almeida would then score a pair of goals in the 26th and 38th minute with
Ben Klausen converting a penalty kick in the 35th to make it 4-0 at the half.
Northland kept the Vikings at bay in the beginning of the second half but a second yellow card resulting in a red in the 66th minute allowed the Vikings to play at an advantage the rest of the game.
Cameron Brookfield would be the first Viking to find the back of the net in the second frame as he did so in the 77th minute, before
Gijs van Eldik scored two goals in a three minute span to make it 7-0.
Guilherme Gancho would then find the back of the net in the 83rd minute before a goal in the closing minute from
Santiago Rios made it 9-0.
Gancho added three assists to his goal while Rios was credited with two. Brady Price got the win in net for the Vikings.
Bethany will next be in action on Tuesday when they host Minnesota Morris at 7 p.m.
