MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon hosted Northwestern and claimed a 2-0 shutout victory. With the win the Vikings move to 9-6-2 overall and 8-2-1 in the UMAC while the Eagles fall to 5-6-4 overall and 4-4-3 in the conference.
The Vikings scored just under 15 minutes into the contest as they would use some great combination play in the midfield with
Guilherme Gancho notching the opening goal.
Diogo Cavalcanti and
Daniel Almeida would be the two distributors with Gancho on the receiving end for the goal.Â
That would be the last score of the first half though, as the three other shots in the half.
Bethany would pick up the scoring right away again in the second, as just over two minutes in Cavalcanti would send in a corner kick that Almeida would sky above the defense and redirect into the net for the 2-0 lead.Â
The Eagles would put two shots on goal in the game's final 45 minutes but
Nick Lundberg would stand tall in net to post the shutout and hold on for the 2-0 win.Â
