MANKATO, Minn. - For the first time in program history the Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team will host a UMAC semifinal game after they defeated Crown 1-0 on Wednesday night. With the win the Vikings move to 8-6-2 overall and 8-2-1 in the UMAC while the Polars fall to 6-7-2 overall and 6-3-2 in the conference.
In the first 20 minutes of this one, the Vikings would put a flurry of shots in the direction of the Polar net but the opposing keeper would stand strong making a few saves while also forcing a few errant shots to keep things scoreless.
Crown would also get a few looks late in the half, but
Arayah Baker would stand tall in net to keep the game scoreless headed to the half.
The Polars would then be the team to apply the early pressure in the second half, as they would gain a few corners and put a few shots on in the first 15 minutes.
Bethany though would finally break through in the 63rd minute, as
Sarah Breukelaar would play a cross in front of the net and
Elena Luján Rubio would fly it and knock it into the left side of the net for the goal.
That goal would prove to be the game winner as well, as the two teams would play scoreless the final 25 minutes and Bethany would claim the win.
The Vikings will now close out their regular season on Saturday when they head to Minnesota Morris for a 3:30 p.m. contest before opening UMAC Tournament play next Wednesday at home.
