Box Score ST. BONIFACIOUS, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran volleyball team got their first conference win of the season on Saturday afternoon as they defeated Crown by a score of 3-0. With the win the Vikings move to 8-11 overall and 1-4 in the UMAC while the Polars fall to 5-7 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
Bethany would get out to a strong start in the first set, taking an early 7-2 advantage and eventually pushing that lead out to 14-7 midway through the frame. A few points later they would push their lead to nine points after three kills from
Lilly Mehrkens before eventually putting the set away 25-16.
After the Vikings would go up 8-6 early in set two, they would leave no doubt in the second. They would push their lead all the way to 21-11 before claiming the set 25-15.
Crown would take an early lead in the third, as they would push out to a 7-6 advantage. Bethany would use an 8-2 run though to claim a 14-9 lead with four
Maddie Meyer kills in the sequence. Crown would draw the deficit to four points late at 21-17, but the Vikings would close out the set with four kills to claim it 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Meyer had a massive day, with 16 kills and a .481 hitting percentage to lead the charge while Mehrkens also added double digit kills with 13.
Abby Distad continues her strong run as she posted another career-high with 45 assists while
Megan Wegner tallied a team-best 24 digs.
The Vikings will next be in action on Friday when they travel to UW-Superior for a 7 p.m. contest.
