Softball Splits a Pair of Contests Sunday

MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran softball team played in two more contests on Sunday morning and came away with a split, falling 4-2 to Hamline before defeating Concordia 9-2.

Hamline 4 - 2 Bethany
The Vikings opened up their day taking on Hamline, with the Pipers scoring in the first and third inning to take a 2-0 advantage.

Bethany would scratch across their first run in the fourth as they would use a walk, an error, and heads up baserunning by Jordan Green to score from second base on a ground ball to the infield to cut the lead in half.

Hamline would add another run in the sixth, but an Emily Meyer double followed by a Katelyn Halbach single would score a run for the Vikings to bring the score to 3-2.

The Pipers would put up one more run in the top of the seventh before holding BLC scoreless in the bottom half to take the win.

Kaija Mork led the Vikings at the plate in the contest, notching two of the team's seven hits.

Meyer took the loss on the mound in the game working three innings and allowing two runs, while Mork three four innings in relief allowing two runs.

Bethany 9 - 2 Concordia
In the second contest of the day, the Vikings would strike first thanks to a sac fly from Emily Doyle in the top of the first.

Mork would get the start on the mound and a pair of doubles from the Cobbers in the first would help push two runs across, but that was all they would get.

Bethany would score two more in the top of the third thanks to run scoring hits from Haley Stockman and Emily Nelson, before Stockman would drive in two more with a single in the fourth. Leading 5-2, Bethany would score four more in the fifth inning thanks to five errors from the Cobbers as they would hold on from there for the 9-2 win.

Mork threw all seven innings in the win, striking out three.

Stockman led the Vikings at the plate with three hits, while Sydney Jacobs added two and reached base in all four at bats and scoring three runs.

Bethany will next be in action next weekend when they play four more games at the MSU dome.
