TACOMA, Wash. - The Bethany Lutheran baseball team played in the final contest of their three-game series with Puget Sound on Monday afternoon and fell 10-0 in seven innings. With the loss the Vikings fall to 2-2 while the Loggers move to 4-7.
Bethany would have the first scoring threat in this one, as
Josh Robb started off the second inning with a double but was stranded at third base to end the innings.
UPS would answer with four runs in the third using four hits and a hit by pitch, including three two-out RBI base hits, to take the early lead. Another two-out RBI double in the bottom of the third would give them another run and the 5-0 edge.
In the fifth, three free passes issued by a Viking pitching staff following by a triple would help the Loggers plate three more runs to go up by a margin of 8-0. Bethany would have another chance to score in the sixth, loading the bases with just one out but a strikeout and popout would end the threat.
Puget Sound would add a run in both the sixth and seventh as they would take the win via the 10-run rule.
Bethany had five different players record hits in the contest, with Robb reaching base a pair of times via the double and a walk.
John Lutzi suffered the loss on the mound for the Vikings, allowing five runs and striking out two in three innings of work.
