SALEM, Ore. - The Bethany Lutheran baseball team took on Willamette on Tuesday afternoon and fell to the Bearcats by a score of 12-0. With the loss the Vikings fall to 2-3 overall while Willamette moves to 8-0.
Bethany would get a hit in the top of the first inning, but a 5-4-3 double play would halt that early scoring chance. The Bearcats would then use a walk and three singles in the bottom half to take an early 2-0 lead.
After a few scoreless frames, Willamette would add one more run in the third inning after three wild pitches would allow a runner to come all the way around from first to score. Two more would come across in the fourth for WU as they were able to use three hits and a Bethany error to take a 5-0 lead.
Willamette didn't score again until the sixth inning, but they would all but seal the victory, as they used seven walks and a pair of hits to push seven runs across and take the 12-0 lead that they would hold onto in the top of the seventh for the 10-run rule victory.
The Vikings managed just two hits in the contest, with the other hit coming from Nolan Spence.
Caleb Randolph suffered the loss on the mound, throwing five innings and allowing four earned runs, while striking out three.
Bethany will now have a day off before returning to action against Pacific University on Thursday afternoon.
