CLERMONT, Fla. - The Bethany Lutheran softball team Wednesday night played in a pair of contests in Florida and fell to Aurora 8-0 before losing to Dominican 12-1. With the results the Vikings move 6-8 on the year.
Aurora 8 - 0 Bethany
Bethnay couldn't get any offense going in game one, but starting pitcher Kaija Mork held the Spartans scoreless as well through the first two innings. After Bethany would go down 1-2-3 in the third, Aurora would use five hits to plate five runs and take the early lead.Â
Mork would then deliver a hit to open the fourth, but a great double play turn by the Spartans would eliminate the threat and keep their lead. Bethany would get a pair of hits to lead off the fifth from Jordan Green and Emma Woratschka, but both were stranded as the Spartan pitcher would work out of the jam.Â
Aurora would then use three hits and a pair of walks in the bottom of the fifth to push across three more runs and take the 8-run rule victory.Â
Mork took the loss the mound, allowing four earned runs in four innings of work.
Dominican 12 - 1 Bethany
In game two, Bethany ran into Dominican and starting pitcherr Emma Woodhouse, who had yet allowed a run through her first 20.2 innings of work on the season.Â
After Kayla Senne matched Woodhouse and tossed two scoreless innings to star the game, the Stars would use four hits and four free passes to plate five runs and take the lead.
Dominican added two more runs thanks to small ball in the fifth, but the Vikings would get Woodhouse for her first run allowed of the season in the bottom half. Haley Stockman and Katelyn Halbach would each single before an Emily Doyle base hit would bring a run home to make the score 7-1.Â
Following a scoreless sixth from both squads, Dominican would bring five runs across in the seventh to seal the 12-1 in.Â
Senne struck out five in her 6.1 innings of work while five different Vikings racked up a hit in the contest.Â
