Box Score NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team Friday afternoon took on No. 21 Carleton College and fell to the Knights by a tally of 3-0. With the loss the Vikings fall to 0-1 on the season while the Knights move to 1-0.
Carleton got out to a hot start in this one, scoring under two minutes in on a low cross into the box that was tapped into the right side of the net. Then in the 15th minute, a Knights counterattack resulted in a shot from outside the box that found the back of the net for the early 2-0 advantage. From that point forward in the first, the Vikings would start to maintain more possession but just couldn't muster any great opportunities.
Bethany got one of the first great chances in the second half, as
Raheem Graham would draw a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick. The Carleton keeper would dive to his left, saving the penalty kick, with the ensuing chance by the Vikings put up and over the frame to keep things at 2-0. Then, in the 76th minute, the Knights would put the game away with a rebounded goal off a corner kick to make it 3-0 which would hold for the final.Â
Nick Lundberg made four saves in goal in the loss for the Vikings while
Diogo Cavalcanti had a team-high two shots on goal.Â
Bethany will be back in action on Sunday when they host Bethel at 2 p.m. for their home opener.Â
