Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Almeida Scores Twice to Lead Vikings Past Bethel

MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team got their first win of the season on Sunday afternoon defeating Bethel 2-0 thanks to a two-goal performance from Daniel Almeida. With the win the Vikings improve to 1-1 overall while the Royals fall to 1-1.

Bethany would get their first tally of the season just 15 minutes into this one, as they would play some beautiful combination play. It was Vasco Sotomayor who would find Raheem Graham in the middle of the field with Graham then playing a through ball to Daniel Almeida who was able to dodge the Royal keeper for the tap in and 1-0 lead.

The remainder of the first half would then go scoreless, as Bethel would apply the pressure late, but Nick Lundberg would stand tall in net to keep the one goal lead at the break.

The Vikings would open the second half strong, as Almeida would get his second of the contest just over three minutes in. Ben Klausen would bring it up the right side and tap it to Diogo Cavalcanti who one touched a cross to the front of the net where Almeida would fly through the air and knock it in.

Bethel would get a great look in the 64th minute, but the Vikings defense would hold strong as Jonathan Baylon would kick the shot attempt away to keep the shutout alive. The defense would then continue to hold strong down the stretch to claim the 2-0 win.

Lundberg would claim the win in net, making four saves in the shutout.

Bethany is back in action on Tuesday when they host Saint Mary's for a 7 p.m. contest.
