Men's Soccer Plays to 3-3 Draw with Loras

MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team Sunday afternoon hosted Loras for their final nonconference battle of the season and after a great 90 minutes from both sides the contest would end in a 3-3 draw. With the result the Vikings move to 1-4-1 on the year while the Duhawks move to 3-2-2.

It wouldn't take long for Loras to open the scoring in this one, as they would get a quick goal just over four minutes into the contest on a cross that would find a Duhawks foot near the back post for an open shot.

After the rest of the first half played scoreless, the Vikings would open the scoring in the second as Raffaele Carpani would play a long ball in to Daniel Almeida on the far post with the latter heading it past the Duhawk keeper to draw even at 1-1.

Just five minutes later, Diogo Cavalcanti would then find himself in an attacking position on the right side of the box, where he would volley it to himself a few times before firing a right footed shot into the top left corner to give Bethany the lead.

Bethany would score their final goal of the contest in the 80th minute, as Almeida would weave his way through the left side of the Loras defense before firing a shot to the right side of the net for a late insurance goal.

Trailing by two Loras didn't give in, as they would get a goal in the 81st minute after a low cross worked all the way to the back of the box for an open shot to cut the deficit to 3-2 with just over eight minutes to play. After they would gain control just a few seconds after the ensuing kickoff, they would send it long where a Viking player would play it out near the corner. On the throw from the corner, the Duhawk player got it all the way to the far post where a Loras player would sky through the air and head it home to even it at 3-3.

The remaining time played scoreless with neither team putting any really threatening chances on net and the game ended in a draw.

The Vikings will next be in action on Wednesday when they open up UMAC play at Northwestern at 7 p.m.
