Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran men's soccer team Wednesday night took on Northwestern in its first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action of the year and drew with the Eagles 1-1. With the result Bethany moves to 1-4-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the conference while the Eagles go to 1-2-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the UMAC.
It didn't take long for the scoring to get started in this contest and it was Bethany who struck first just two minutes in.
Matteo Faraguna would attempt to send a cross into the Northwestern box, and, after it was deflected up into the air
Raheem Graham would strike it with his right foot before it ever hit the ground into the top left corner for the 1-0 lead.
It didn't take long for UNW to answer though as the Eagles would get a nifty left footed shot into the top left corner in the eighth minute to even things as 1-1.
Both teams would have plenty of chances the rest of the first half as the Eagles would put five more shots up while Bethany would take three corners but nothing would come of it as the teams were even at the break.
The second half would prove to be much of the same, with both teams employing a stout defense and a lot of the play happening in the midfield, as neither team was able to put a shot on goal in the second half and the game would end in a 1-1 draw.
The Vikings will be back in action on Saturday when they head to North Central for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
