ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team Wednesday night opened their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) slate at Northwestern and fell by a score of 3-0. With the loss the Vikings fell to 0-5 overall and 0-1 in the UMAC while the Eagles move to 1-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the conference.
The Eagles would get the scoring started first in this one, as they would find the back of the net in the 31st minute for the early 1-0 advantage. They would fire six other shots on net in the first half but
Arayah Baker would stand tall in net to keep the score at 1-0 after 45 minutes.
The Eagles would then continue to control possession for the early portion of the second half and it would pay off in the 70th minute as they would get their second goal on a corner kick that they would punch past the Viking defense for the 2-0 lead.
Bethany would get a corner just over five minutes later and
Olaitz Azkue Muguruza would rise above the defense for a header, but her redirect would go over the post to keep the score 2-0. The Eagles would get a counterattack just a minute later and get behind the Bethany defense for another goal to bring the score to the 3-0 final.
Baker made 12 saves in the loss while allowing three goals.
Bethany will next be in action on Saturday when they travel to North Central for a 2 p.m. contest.
