MANKATO, Minn. -
Olaitz Azkue Muguruza played a part in the first five goals the Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team scored on Tuesday night in their 7-2 win over Martin Luther. With the win the Vikings move to 2-5-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the UMAC while the Knights fall to 3-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the conference.
It didn't take long for Azkue to find the back of the net, as
Mia Johnson would play a pass through the middle of the defense and Azkue would have a wide open net for the goal just 1:36 in. Less than a minute later, Azkue would drop a pass off in the box to
Riley Ping with Ping firing one to the left of the keeper for the 2-0 lead.
In the 20th minute, the Vikings would strike again as Azkue would play a through ball to
Elena Luján Rubio who was able to evade the keeper for the 3-0 lead. Seven minutes later, Azkue would get ther second goal of the contest on a cross from Lujan Rubio that she would head into the top left corner for the 4-0 advantage.
The Knights would get their first goal of the contest in the 37th minute on a scrum in front of the net as the Vikings would hold the 4-1 lead into the break.
Bethany once again struck quickly in the second half, as
Katelynn Bills would play a long ball into the box that Azkue would back heel into the goal for the hat trick and to make it 5-1. Lujan Rubio would then get her second goal of the contest in the 53rd minute before
Ashley Casper netted the Vikings last goal in the 65th.
The Knights would add one more goal in the 78th to bring the tally to 7-2.
The Vikings outshot MLC 30-9 in the contest with 13 being on frame.
Arayah Baker got the start in net, making two saves in the contest.
Bethany will be back in action on Saturday when they will host UW-Superior for a 2 p.m. matchup.
