Women's Soccer Picks Up Big Win Over UW-Superior Saturday

MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team picked up their first win over UW-Superior since 2018 on Saturday afternoon, snapping an 8-game skid with a 3-2 decision. With the win the Vikings move to 3-5 overall and 3-1 in the UMAC, while the Yellowjackets fall to 5-5-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the conference.

Elena Luján Rubio would get the scoring started just eight minutes in after Olaitz Azkue Muguruza would flip her a pass at the top of the box and she made a few defenders miss before flicking it up and over the keeper's head for the early 1-0 lead.

The Yellowjackets would net the equalizer in the 30th minute to even things at one apiece which is where the score would stand as the team's headed to the halftime break.

Bethany would once again open up the scoring in the second half, as they would use some great combination play in the 53rd minute, with Roxy Rehberg finding Riley Ping near the left side of the box and the latter firing a shot past the UWS keeper for a 2-1 lead.

After Superior got a second goal with 10 minutes to play, this contest looked to be heading towards a 2-2 draw. Rehberg would play hero though, as she would fire a shot from outside the box that hit the top bar and deflected down into the for the game winner with just over six minutes to play.

The Yellowjackets would get one more great chance late but Emma Rowen would make a big defensive play by knocking a dangerous ball out of play with just three minutes left to help save the victory.

The Vikings will next be in action on Wednesday when they head to Crown for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
