ST. PETER, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran women's soccer team traveled to St. Peter on Wednesday night to take on Gustavus and fell by a score of 4-0. With the loss the Vikings fall to 0-2 while Gustavus moves to 2-0-1.
Early in this one Bethany held the upper hand, firing off two shots on net in the game's first 10 minutes. The Gusties would then start to gain the advantage by putting four shots on goal but
Ema Cortes Carvalho would hold strong and make all four saves to keep the game scoreless. The next opportunity form Gustavus would find the net though as they would gain the 1-0 edge.
After few more shots were turned away, Gustavus would find two more goals, the second being on a penalty kick to lead 3-0 at the half.
In the second half Gustavus would control the pace early, firing off four shots in the first 10 minutes, but
Arayah Baker would make all four saves.
Over the final 35 minutes of the contest, the Gusties would put three more shots on net, with an 87th minute goal bringing the score to its 4-0 final.
Elena Luján Rubio led Bethany with three shots in the contest, two of which were on net.
The Vikings will next be in action for their home opener on Tuesday when they host Augsburg for a 7 p.m. contest.
