MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany men's soccer punched its ticket to the UMAC Championship for the sixth consecutive season with a 3-0 win over Northwestern on Wednesday night. The Vikings (12-6-2) will travel to UW-Superior on Saturday afternoon for the sixth straight meeting in the title match between the two squads.Â
Santiago Rios set up the opening goal in the 27th minute as his shot rebounded to Juan Campos, who netted his third goal of the season. With less than five minutes remaining in the half, Gil Frazao's corner kick connected with Jamie van Wijland on the back side, who headed in his second goal of the season and the Vikings led 2-0 at half.Â
After dealing with an injury for most of the season, Guilherme Gancho returned to the score sheet with his eighth goal of the season, assisted by Goncalo Nolasco in the 80th minute.Â
The Vikings dominated possession and out-shot the Eagles 19-2 overall and 11-0 on goal. Bethany had 13 corner kicks compared to just one by Northwestern.Â
The winner of Saturday's UMAC playoff championship will earn an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships, which Bethany is looking to do for the first time in program history.Â
