Softball Claims Two More Wins on Day Two of Kwik Trip Invite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany Lutheran softball team picked up two more wins on Sunday as they defeated Carleton 6-0 before a 12-3 5-inning win over St. Scholastica. With the victories the Vikings move to 3-1 after one weekend of play.

Bethany 6 - 0 Carleton
The Vikings were the beneficiaries of another dominant performance from Emily Meyer in the circle as she controlled things from start to finish in this one.

The sophomore would toss three scoreless innings before she got help from the Viking offense as Emily Nelson, Kaija Mork, and Emily Doyle would all reach base. Bryn Weidner then broke things open with a two-run ground rule double before three more walks would bring in two more to make it 4-0.

After Meyer would toss three more scoreless innings Bethany would add two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Addie Ahern and Mork both reached safely and the Vikings would play small ball to plate two more runs with a double steal and a Weidner squeeze to make it 6-0. Meyer then put the Knights down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh to seal the victory.

In her seven innings of work, Meyer struck out eight and scattered just five hits. Doyle led Bethany at the plate with three hits in the contest, while Mork and Weidner each added two.

Bethany 12 - 3 St. Scholastica
Game two played very similarly to game one with both team's starters tossing two scoreless innings to start.

It was the Vikings who struck first in the top of the third inning and they did so in a massive way by plating five runs. They would open things with three straight singles to load the bases with nobody out, before Emily Nelson ripped a bases clearing double down the left field line to make it 3-0. After Weidner singled to put runners on the corners, a wild pitch would allow Nelson to score and put Weidner in scoring position. Doyle then singled to bring her home as the score moved to 5-0.

CSS was able to chase Mork from the circle in the third inning as they would plate three runs, but Becca Kuck would come on to get out of the jam and keep the two-run lead in tact.

After Kuck got an out and allowed two walks in the fourth, Meyer would come back in and give up a walk before striking out two with the bases loaded to get the inning unscathed.

Mork and Orla Keys would each reach on infield hits in the top of the fifth inning and with two outs Carly Nelson stepped up and drove a double to the fence to bring them both in and make it 7-3.

Following a 1-2-3 bottom of the fifth from Meyer, Bethany's offense exploded for five runs in the sixth to put the game away. Emily and Carly Nelson would tally RBI base hits in the inning while a Saints error with the bases loaded cleared the bases to put the Vikings up nine headed to the bottom half.

Meyer would issue one walk in the bottom half of the inning but get the next three out as the Vikings claimed the 8-run rule victory.

Weidner led the 15-hit effort for Bethany in game two with three hits and two runs scored. Keys, Aliya Edbom-Kehler, and both Carly and Emily Nelson each added two hits with the latter driving in four runs. Meyer got the win in relief for Bethany, tossing 2.2 hitless innings and striking out three.

The Vikings will be back in action next weekend when they play two more games on Sunday against Hamline and Saint Mary's.
