MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany women's soccer picked up its first win of the season in shutout fashion Saturday, beating Northwestern-St. Paul 2-0 at Scheels Field. The Vikings improve to 1-4-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the UMAC.Â
Nearly three minutes into the match, Roxy Rehberg set up the scoring opportunity with a through pass to Mia Johnson in the right corner. Johnson centered it to Reese Moorad, who flicked it to Riley Ping just outside the 18. Ping then crushed a shot past the keeper into the lower right corner of the net for her first goal of the season.Â
The Vikings carried a 1-0 lead into halftime as Northwestern had a 9-6 advantage in shots.Â
Bethany added an insurance goal in the 68th minute as Grace Sundby intercepted a clearing attempt by the Eagle defense, chipping a shot over the keeper's head from the top of the 18 for her first career goal.Â
Northwestern had a number of scoring opportunities in the second half but Arayah Baker stood up to the challenge, stopping all 10 shots faced. The Eagles outshot the Vikings 20-11 overall and 10-8 on goal.Â
Bethany continues conference play at home Tuesday night against Crown.Â
