MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany men's and women's tennis teams began their fall seasons Saturday at home against Grand View University. The Viking women won 5-0, while the men lost a close 4-3 match.Â
The Viking women started the match with a 7-6 (7-4) win at No. 1 doubles from the duo of Campbell Amundson and Emily Yehle. No. 2 doubles was walkover and No. 3 was a default, giving the Vikings the doubles point.Â
In singles play, Sailor Mohlenbrock won 2-6, 6-2, 13-11 at the top spot and Amundson won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3. Yehle at No. 2 and Madi Omar were walkover victors at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively, and No. 6 was a default.Â
The Viking men started their match with a 6-4 win by Mark Barton and Simao Caetano at No. 2, but the top doubles team of Joel Simon and Thales Oliveira lost 6-3 and the No. 3 tandem of Ezra Greenman and Souhail Boukhari lost 6-3, giving Grand View the doubles point.Â
Bethany and Grand View split singles play with three wins apiece. Bethany was victorious at No. 2 with Barton (1-6, 6-4, 10-6), No. 3 with Caetano (6-4, 6-1), and No. 6 with Boukhari (6-1, 6-2). Grand View won at No. 1 against Simon (6-3, 6-0), No. 4 against Oliveira (6-3, 7-5), and No. 5 against Greenman (6-3, 6-2).Â
Bethany next competes Saturday at Saint Mary's.Â
