MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany softball shut out two MIAC opponents on the final day of its dome invitational Sunday, blanking Carleton 9-0 in five innings before a 2-0 win over Gustavus, improving to 7-1 overall.
Bethany 9, Carleton 0 (5 inn.)
The Vikings made quick work of the Knights in the five-inning run-rule game. Playing as the visitor, Bethany scored once in the first inning as Olivia Sanborn reach on an error and later scored on a RBI groundout by Emily Doyle. Bryn Weidner started the second with an infield single and later stole home for a 2-0 lead.
Bethany blew the game wide open in the fourth with six runs on as many hits. Orla Keys plated a couple runs with a single through the right side. Three batters later, Addie Ahern hit a two-run homer over the left field fence. Carly Nelson and Weidner both hit RBI singles to wrap up the frame.
Weidner led at the plate, batting 2-for-2 with two runs. Joie Koll improved to 3-0 on the rubber in shutout fashion. She struck out four and gave up just three hits.
Bethany 2, Gustavus 0
Emily Meyer limited the Gusties to just three hits in the complete game outing. Meyer improved to 4-1 after allowing just base runners in the game with three strikeouts.
After three scoreless frames, the Vikings scored the only two runs of the game in the fourth. Aliya Edbom-Kehler singled to right and was pinch ran for by Alexis Dahlberg. Weidner walked and Keys followed with an RBI single to right. Emily Nelson then hit a sac fly for the second run.
Keys led at the plate with two hits and an RBI.
Bethany heads to Florida next weekend for eight games over six days.
