MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - Bethany men's tennis earned a pair of non-conference victories on Saturday. The Vikings defeated Cornell College 5-2 before a 6-1 win over the University of Dubuque, improving to 7-3 overall.Â
Cornell earned the doubles point by taking two out of three. Joel Simon and Daniel Poulakidas won 6-1 at No. 2.Â
The Vikings rebounded with five singles victories. Simon won 7-6. 7-6 at No. 1, Declan Jones won 6-4, 6-7, 10-5 at No. 2, Mark Barton won 6-4, 3-6, 11-9 at No. 4, Simao Caetano won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 and Thales Oliveira won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.Â
Against Dubuque, the Vikings swept doubles action and won five of six singles matches. Jones and Barton had the closest doubles match, winning 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1. The Vikings' five singles victories were all in straight sets.Â
Bethany is back in action Friday in Owatonna against Nebraska Wesleyan and St. Olaf.Â
