MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany advanced to the UMAC Men's Tennis Tournament semifinals with a 4-0 win over Northwestern on Tuesday in a play-in match. The Vikings improve to 13-7 overall and will face Greenville in the semifinals Friday afternoon at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.Â
Northwestern won its lone match at No. 1 doubles, but the Vikings earned the doubles point as Joel Simon and Daniel Poulakidas won 6-1 at No. 2, and Simao Caetano and Thales Oliveira won 6-4 at No. 3.Â
Bethany then cruised to straight-set victories in three singles matches to clinch the win. Jones won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, Simon won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, and Poulakidas won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3. Mark Barton, Caetano, and Oliveira were leading in second sets when the match was declared a final.Â
