MANKATO, Minn. - Bethany baseball won the rubber match Tuesday, defeating UW-Superior 4-3 at ISG Field to claim the series 2-1. The Vikings improve to 15-5 overall and 6-3 in the UMAC.Â
The Yellowjackets started strong with a couple runs in the first inning before the Vikings tallied their first run in the second. Gary Swann walked on scored on a single by Vincent Curzie.Â
Superior went ahead 3-1 in the fifth, scoring on an RBI groundout, but that was it for the visitors. With the bases loaded in the seventh, Jayden Knutson hit a two-run single to tie the game. Max Athmann had the game-winning hit in the eighth, scoring Xander Meissner with a single down the right field line.Â
Ardryen Tietz started on the mound and went 6.2 innings in a no decision. He allowed three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts. Riston Wojcik (3-1) earned the win in relief, tossing 1.1 innings with no runs or hits. Sean Gamble picked up his second save of the season after striking out the side in the ninth.Â
The Vikings were limited to six hits, all from different batters.Â
Bethany next hosts Maranatha Baptist University for a three-game series Friday and Saturday.Â
