ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bethany volleyball suffered a three-set loss at Macalester on Wednesday night, dropping to 1-6 overall. Set scores were 25-17, 25-18, and 28-26.Â
The Vikings had the upper hand early in the first with a 10-5 advantage before the Scots went on an 8-2 run to take their first lead of the match. The lead changed sides twice more but the Scots had the final word, finishing the first on a 9-1 run.Â
Macalester jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the second and never trailed. The home team carried its momentum into the third with a 10-1 lead before the Vikings clawed their way back with a 13-3 run to tie the score at 14-14. Holly Hinderks had three kills during that span.Â
A kill by Taylor Helgemoe, an ace by Marissa Stamer, and a bad set by the Scots gave the Vikings their first lead since the opening set at 17-16 and forced a Macalester timeout. From that point on, there were six ties but the home squad eventually fended off the Vikings in extras.Â
Hinderks led the attack with seven kills and contributed 11 digs as well. Vivian Peplow quarterbacked the offense with 13 assists and added three aces. Avery Carlson led the back line with 14 digs.Â
Bethany continues play on the road Saturday at the Bethel Invitational with matches against Carleton and Bethel.Â
