ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - Bethany volleyball went 0-2 at the Bethel Invite on Saturday, dropping to 1-8 overall. The Vikings lost 3-1 to Carleton and then 3-0 to Bethel.Â
Bethany 1, Carleton 3
Carleton got out to an early 7-3 lead in the first set and never looked back en route to a 25-15 decision. The second set was a marathon, back and fourth battle with nine lead changes and 13 ties, resulting in a 31-29 Viking victory. Two kills by Abby Maloney sealed the victory to tie the match.Â
The third set was another seesaw affair but the Knights came out on top 25-23 and then closed it out in the fourth in extras at 26-24.Â
Maloney led the attack with 11 kills. Vivian Peplow distributed 13 assists and dug out 15 attacks for a double-double. Avery Carlson led the back line with 18 digs.Â
Bethany 0, Bethel 3
The host Royals made quick work of the Vikings, winning by set scores of 25-22, 25-15, and 25-13.Â
Maloney and Brooklyn Erickson led the offense with eight kills apiece. Peplow had 14 assists and Carlson posted 14 digs.Â
Bethany hosts Martin Luther on Tuesday night for the UMAC and home opener.Â
