RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Bethany volleyball suffered a pair of losses Saturday to conclude play at the Concordia Chicago Quad. The Vikings lost 3-1 to Benedictine before a three-set loss to Buena Vista, dropping to 1-3 overall.
Bethany 1, Benedictine 3
The Vikings had the upper hand early, winning the first set 25-21. Bethany took advantage of five errors on Benedictine and had kills from Lexi Ashley and Brooklyn Erickson, as well as an ace from Holly Hinderks, for an 8-0 lead to start the match. Benedictine got within three points late, but a service error ended the set.
The second set featured five lead changes and 10 ties, but Benedictine claimed the last three points for a 25-21 win. The Eagles used a similar formula to win the third set by an identical score of 25-21 and rallied at the end of the four set to win 25-23. The Vikings held a 19-13 lead but couldn't hold on.
Hinderks led the offense with 12 kills and a .290 attack percentage. She also led the back line with 16 digs. Marissa Stamer posted 16 assists while the Vikings were limited to a .101 attack rate.
Bethany 0, Buena Vista 3
The Beavers handed the Vikings convincing set losses of 25-12, 25-19, and 25-10 to finish the quadrangular. Bethany's only lead of the match was early in the second but faded after a 9-3 run by the Beavers.
Bethany hit -.034 on the attack. Abby Maloney and Hinderks had four kills each. Mily Wordlaw had 15 digs on the back line.
Bethany is back on the court next Saturday at the Wartburg Invite against Gustavus and Wartburg.
