Owatonna, Minn. – Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams defeated North Central in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference match. The men took the Rams 5-4 and the women swept their competitors 9-0.
For the men, three Vikings won their singles competition. BLC’s number three Eric DeBruzzi (Carlisle, Mass./Concord Carlisle) defeated his opponent 6-4, 6-3. In the number five spot Nickolas Croy (Tacoma, Wash. / Evergreen Lutheran) took his counterpart in three sets winning 6-2, falling 2-6 but coming back to seal the victory 10-5. Number six Peter Londgren (Charlevoix, Mich. / Charlevoix) took his opponent handily wining 6-0, 6-3.
In the doubles competition David Blumer (Lakewood, Colo. / Green Mountain) and Ryan Koch (Savage, Minn. / Bloomington Jefferson) won 8-6 as did the duo of Croy and Londgren.
The women had a great day on the courts winning every match-up. Bethany’s number one Rebecca Kopacek (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo) defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-0. In the five and six spot Marta Faugstad (Mankato, Minn. / Mankato East) and Rebecca Neumann (Hartland, Wis. / Luther Prep) each took their opponents 6-0, 6-0.
In the doubles competition Neumann and her partner Ellen Tommerdahl (Champlin, Minn. / West Lutheran) had the best performance for the Vikings completely shutting out their competitors winning 8-0.
Next, the Vikings host Northwestern at 3 p.m. on April 26th.
