Vikings fall to Saints in tourney tune-up

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. - The Bethany men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season Saturday in Duluth, the same place where they will begin the postseason on Wednesday. In a preview of their UMAC Semifinal match, St. Scholastica topped the Vikings 6-0.

St. Scholastica earns the top seed for the UMAC Postseason Tournament by going undefeated in conference play while the Vikings finish at 9-5, good for fourth place.

Saturday's match was scoreless through the first 30 minutes, but St. Scholastica changed the scoreboard with a Joe Watt goal in the 32nd minute. Caleb Yurek followed three minutes later with a rebound off the post as the Saints took a 2-0 lead into the break. CSS added four goals in the final 15 minutes to make the outcome 6-0.

Noah Heidorn made eight saves in net for Bethany who was outshot 23-6 by the Saints including a 15-2 edge in shots on goal.

The BLC-CSS UMAC Semifinal match will take place Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Duluth. The other semifinal matchup pits No. 3 Minn.-Morris at No. 2 Northwestern. The semifinal winners will meet in the UMAC Championship Game next Saturday at 2 p.m. at the highest remaining seed.
