Vikings tie Eagles to stay in hunt for playoff berth

Box Score ST. PAUL - The Vikings men's soccer team came into the final weekend of regular season play still in contention for the UMAC playoff spot. Those hopes are still alive after tying Northwestern Friday.

With one game remaining, Bethany is tied with Martin Luther for fifth place at 18 points and two points behind Northwestern for the fourth and final playoff position. St. Scholastica has clinched the regular season title, Minn.-Morris holds down the second seed and Crown has locked up the No. 3 position.

Saturday, Bethany (5-11-3, 5-5-3 in UMAC) plays at North Central, Martin Luther hosts St. Scholastica, and Northwestern hosts Crown.

Bethany and Northwestern played to a scoreless tie earlier this season and, through the first half Friday, it was scoreless again. Ben Moldstad finally broke through with the first goal in the season series in the 57th minute off a feed from Michael Loguercio.

Northwestern's Mark Habeck tied the game at 1 in the 69th minute.

Matt Bitter was stellar in goal for BLC making 11 saves.
