DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Bethany men's tennis team started their fall schedule while the women continued theirs Saturday in Dubuque. Both squads fell to the Spartans 8-1.
For the men, their lone win came from the No. 3 doubles team of
Brent Heflin and
Paul Riediger as they defeated CeeJay Schaffner and Jordan Hamling in a tight battle, 8-6.
The closest match of the afternoon came from
Carter Dahl at No. 4 singles. In his first collegiate match, Dahl took Schaffner down to the wire before falling 4-6, 7-6, 8-10.
For the women,
Alicia Kranz picked up her first collegiate win beating Marissa Rutenbeck in three sets 6-4, 4-6, 10-2. At No. 6 singles,
Justine Bennett stretched her opponent to limit before falling 6-4, 4-6, 3-10.
The ITA Midwest Regionals are next up for both teams. The women are up first Friday-Sunday at Gustavus while the men compete September 26-28.
