Box Score MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany men's soccer team trailed by two goals at the half, but they kept the pressure on in the second half against Minn.-Morris to force a 2-2 tie in the UMAC opener.
Just like in the women's game, Minn.-Morris scored quickly, 42 seconds in, when Michael Schuweiler scored an unassisted goal. Zachary Jacobson put Minn.-Morris up 2-0 in the 22nd minute off assists from Luqman Barre and Jacob Sphatt.
The Vikings cut the deficit in half in the eighth minute of the second half when
Ben Moldstad rifled a left footed shot in the right corner of the net off a pass from
Jorge Perez.
The score remained 2-1 until the final minute of regulation.
Sid Brown lofted a pass into the box that Perez headed in for the equalizing goal.
Matt Bitter was stellar in goal for Bethany making six saves. He made a sprawling save off a UMM header in the 98th minute to keep the game tied.
Bethany (0-5-1, 0-0-1 UMAC) next plays host to Martin Luther Saturday at 2:15 p.m.
