Box Score Vikings Tie Cougars in Late Season Conference Game

MORRIS, Minn. – In a UMAC contest on Wednesday afternoon the Bethany men's soccer team took on the Minn.-Morris Cougars in a battle to stay in postseason contention. The Vikings and Cougars tied 1-1 in double-overtime.

Bethany and Minn.-Morris are both in the hunt for one of the final three spots going into the postseason tournament. Â On Wednesday,
Jorge Perez (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain Fort Carson) scored the lone goal for the Vikings off a penalty kick in the 21
st minute of play. The Cougars answered with a goal less than 10 minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.

Both teams exchanged possession of the ball in the second half of play with neither team able to find the match winner. During the overtime periods the Cougars attempted six shots compared to the Vikings one, neither team finding the game-winning goal. The starting goalkeeper for Bethany was Matt Bitter (Bemidji, Minn.) who saved five shots on the afternoon.

Bethany is now 4-11-3, 3-4-2 on the season while Minn.-Morris stands at 4-11-1, 4-4-1 on the season. The men's soccer team will resume play on Saturday, October 24 when they host Northland in a must win conference game starting at 3:15 p.m. Come out and support the men's soccer team.
