MANKATO, Minn. - In their home finales Saturday, the Bethany men's tennis team defeated Minn.-Morris handily and lost a tight dual with Northwestern.
In a match that ended indoors in Owatonna due to the rain, the Vikings defeated Minn.-Morris 8-1. Bethany was a perfect 3-for-3 in doubles play. The tandems of
Jacob Kubler/Troy Hoyord and
DJ Jackson/Carter Dahl won their matches by identical 8-2 scores.
Brent Heflin and
Andrew Jelken won their match at No. 1 doubles 8-5.
Bethany took five of the six singles matches as well. Heflin did not lose a game in his match at No. 3 singles. Kubler won at the No. 1 spot 6-4, 6-1. Hoyord,
Jason Buechler and
Paul Riediger also won their matches in straight sets.
Bethany 8, Minn.-Morris 1After defeating Northwestern for the first time in program history ten days ago 5-4, the score was reversed in favor of the Eagles on Saturday.
The Vikings won four of the six singles matches. Heflin, Hoyord, and Buehcler were again victorious in straight sets. Jelken needed a match tiebreak to win his match at No. 2 singles.
Northwestern on all three doubles matches in tight fashion with the No. 1 and 2 matches needing to go to a tiebreak.
