ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethany men's tennis team did something Wednesday, the program had never done before. . . beat Northwestern. The Vikings topped the Eagles 5-4 in St. Paul to remain perfect in conference play.
The key to the victory was the play of the Nos. 3-6 singles players as all four came up with big victories.Â
Brent Heflin defeated Trevor Grasto at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-3. At No. 4,Â
Carter Dahl needed a match tiebreaker to beat Joshua Kimball 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6).
Troy Hoyord had the most convincing win of the day for Bethany by beating Cole Grasto 6-1, 6-2.Â
Jason Buechler rounded out the singles victories with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Tanner Magruder.
Northwestern won the No. 1 and No. 2 matches in both singles and doubles meaning the team victory came down to the No. 3 doubles match withÂ
DJ Jackson/Paul Riediger and Cole Grasto/Turner Main. The Vikings duo came through with the 8-5 win to give Bethany the team win.
Bethany remains perfect in UMAC play at 3-0. They host St. Scholastica Saturday at 9 a.m. in a battle for first place.
