Indoor Track and Field Season Begins at Chuck Petersen Open
MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Indoor Track and Field season began on Saturday afternoon at Minnesota State University-Mankato, as the Vikings competed in the annual Chuck Petersen Open. Second-Year Head Coach Michael Dunn and his men's and women's team began their season taking positive strides in the right direction. The Vikings saw plenty of personal records set and school records broken.
Freshman
Megan Rutt, started off her collegiate career with an indoor school record and tied her personal best with a jump of 5'3" (1.60m). "Very proud of her poise today and we are just getting started," said Dunn.
Kevin Harris started off his season this year better than where he finished last season. In the 60m dash Harris was able to tie an indoor school record and better his personal best with a 7.26. Later in the meet he competed in the 200m, where he once again had a fantastic race and nearly ran a personal best (23.52). "With this race, we are very happy how ready Kevin is for this season, we have a lot ahead of us," Dunn stated.
Anna Lieske was the next to grace the track with a stellar performance today. Not only did she run a personal record in the 600m (1:52.46), but she also set an indoor school record and personal record in the 300m (46.04). Dunn commented, "Anna has proven over and over that she is versatile and I know she is ready for a huge season."
Sophomore
Stefan Prince had one of the best days in Bethany Track and Field History, setting two more indoor school records in the 600m (1:25.35) and in the 300m (37.6). "Coming off of cross country, Stefan is more ready than ever this year and it shows as he will continue to get better as we get into full swing."
Lastly,
Lydia Hildebrandt started her indoor season off (after finishing all-conference in cross country) with two fantastic performances. Very close to the indoor school record (pending official results), she ran a 1:50 in the 600m. Hildebrandt finished her day with the 200m indoor school record of 27.77 with a time of 27.79. "Lydia is looking very fresh off the cross country season and we look forward to seeing how hard she can go in those mid-distance races this season, adding to her arsenal of sprints."
