Vikings Compete in Ted Nelson Classic
MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran men's and women's track and field team made a short trip to Minnesota State University, Mankato to participate in the Ted Nelson Classic on Saturday.
In the 400m,
Brianna Soutthivong competed in her first open 400m of the season and ended the race in a school record time of 1:02.75. "Brianna has shown her strengths this season in the mid-distance events and I am very excited with her progress and know that she will be looking to get even faster as we get closer to the UMAC Championships," welcomed head coach Michael Dunn following the meet.
In the throwers circle, Senior
Lindsey Stewart had a huge day. After setting a school record last week in the weight throw, Lindsey Stewart threw a school record throw of 11.73m in the prelims today and then had a monster throw of 12.50m in finals, to set a new school record by more than one meter "Things seem to really be clicking for her and she knows that next week she will need to work that much more to continue this incredible string of meets," stated Dunn.
Back on the track in the 800m race,
Stefan Prince dominated his heat and in doing so broke the school record by nearly 3 seconds (2:00.22). "Stefan is getting more comfortable with the 800m distance and it is nice to see him run a full race from start to finish. With a few weeks before conference we will work on a few adjustments that should give him a great opportunity to break the 2 minute barrier."
Lydia Hildebrandt finished a day of school records for the Vikings in the 200m dash. In doing so, Lydia ran a 27.28 breaking the record by almost .5 seconds (huge in a sprinting event). "It was a lot of fun to see Lydia eat up the competition in her 200m race today. Being able to do this mid-season indoor is impressive and I know she is determined to drop even more time as we keep working on a few things."
